Composing and Decomposing to 10 Activity with Pattern Blocks

1. Composing to 10 Activity with Pattern Blocks  –  Here is a great first look at an activity that can be used to teach young students number sense. Use pattern blocks and creativity to build the concept of what numbers 1-10 look like and it lends itself to seeing the numbers being composed in various ways. I LOVE the creative aspect of using pattern blocks and making pictures – you’ll know exactly what to do with each of these pictures as a starting place!

2. Free Spin and Read Digraphs (Beach Style) – So much fun when we can use a game to practice literacy skills. This game is perfect for advanced kindergarten students or for first graders. It’s a beach themed game where students spin and then read, so they are getting the practice they need reading common words with digraphs and they’ll feel like they are playing a game. {Free download}

3. Kindergarten Handprint Poem – This is great for the end of a kindergarten year to celebrate and commemorate the small hand prints of kindergartners. It’s a poem that  is perfect for an end of the year graduation, celebration or end of the year art project. We all know that being able to wipe down the classroom is a necessary thing when ending a year, so let them paint this with water colors before wiping down after their project and just keep on going to get the whole room clean! {Free download}
