Make independent reading time fun with flashlights. Here is a quick and fun independent reading time each week by bringing out flashlights.

Students read with flashlights around the room in cozy spots in a darkened classroom.

The change in atmosphere and quiet setting is just the right touch to make reading independently have a novel feel.

Set up your classroom to be the stage for reading in the dark once a week. Have your students grab their appropriate leveled texts and read around the classroom with a flashlight.
